No — the core features (notes, library, export) work completely offline and free. AI summarization & smart replies are optional and require your own API key (Google/Groq, etc.).
Never. Everything stays inside your browser using chrome.storage.local. Even when you use AI, your text goes directly from your browser to the AI provider — VCrumb AI has no backend.
Inside the extension wizard we provide links to Google AI Studio and Groq. Both offer free tiers. Paste the key once, and AI features unlock immediately.
