1. Information we collect

VCrumb AI operates with a local-first philosophy for core study functions. Your personalized notes and environment configurations are saved safely right on your workstation using the browser's sandbox isolation rules. However, minimal, well-defined operational records are utilized to ensure runtime stability and track feature reach:

📝 Notes & library content – text, highlights, titles, tags, and any study material you save.
🔑 API credentials (optional) – if you choose to enable AI features, your API key (from providers like Google AI Studio, Groq, or similar) is stored locally and never transmitted to us.
⚙️ Preferences & UI state – wizard dismissal, theme preference, and feature toggles.
🌐 Website context (temporary) – only when you actively use “summarize this page” or similar actions, the current page text is processed locally then sent directly to your chosen AI provider (if AI mode active). No cross-domain browsing history is collected.

📊 Anonymous Product Analytics

We collect: basic, aggregated feature-usage metrics (such as note counts, export format frequencies, and feature interaction clicks) to optimize performance. We never track: your broad browsing history or personal web data outside active YouTube environments.

2. How we use your information

Because VCrumb AI does not process your notes or API keys through our own proxy servers, data pipelines run either locally or flow straight to your designated AI model gateway. Specifically:

Notes & library – displayed inside the extension, organized, and exported when you request (Markdown/PDF/plain text).
API keys – used solely to authenticate requests from your browser to the AI API (e.g., Gemini, Groq). Keys never leave your device and are never accessed by VCrumb AI developers.
User content with AI (optional) – if you paste a note or highlight text and click “AI explain” or “summarize”, that text is sent directly from your browser to the AI provider you configured. No intermediate proxy or VCrumb server is involved.

To continuously improve the user experience, the extension securely transmits anonymous feature-utilization metrics (like note counters and button engagement) over HTTPS to a secure, developer-managed ledger via Google Apps Script. No personal data or note contents are ever stored or shared with external third parties or advertisers.

3. Third‑party AI providers (your choice)

AI features are entirely opt‑in. If you decide to add an API key, you are choosing to use a third‑party service (e.g., Google AI, Groq, OpenAI, etc.). VCrumb AI does not control those services, and you are responsible for reviewing their respective privacy policies and terms.

Data sent to the AI provider includes only the text you actively submit (e.g., a selected paragraph or a question).
No additional metadata (browser history, extension settings, or other notes) is shared.
You can revoke access at any time by removing your API key from the extension’s Settings panel.

🔐 Limited Use compliance: VCrumb AI’s handling of any information obtained via Google APIs (if you choose Google AI) adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not transfer this data to others or use it for unrelated purposes.

4. Your rights & control

Since your data never leaves your machine, you have direct and absolute control:

View / edit / delete notes – manage everything inside VCrumb AI’s library.
Remove API key – delete the key via extension settings; AI features will be disabled immediately.
Uninstall the extension – completely erases all notes, preferences, and stored API keys from your browser.
Export your data – you can export notes to portable formats at any moment.

No formal data request process is needed because we have no access to your data. You are the sole custodian.

5. Children’s privacy & general use

VCrumb AI is intended for general audiences, including students and lifelong learners. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because all data is local, there is no risk of unsupervised data exposure. Parents and guardians are encouraged to supervise browser extension usage.

6. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this page to reflect feature improvements or regulatory clarifications. Any changes will be posted at this same URL with an updated “Last updated” date. We encourage you to review it occasionally. Continued use of VCrumb AI after modifications constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

For material changes that affect your rights (for example, if we ever alter core server-side integrations), we will highlight the change clearly inside the extension workspace notifications panel.
